About PLATFORM

PLATFORM is a charity, registered in the UK (charity no. 1044485), whose mission is to "promote processes of democratic engagement to advance social and ecological justice".

PLATFORM is a unique interdisciplinary organisation which combines the talents of artists, social scientists, activists and economists to work across disciplines on issues of social and environmental justice. It has an eighteen-year track record of using imaginative, sensitive and dynamic cultural strategies to achieve the ends of greater engagement and humanity, and indeed change, in difficult fields.

Its projects and educational work have been recognised for their innovation, imagination and constructive engagement at the roots of issues, not just in Britain but internationally: over recent years the group has been invited to make major presentations of its work in Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Spain, the USA and Yugoslavia. The current focus of its work (since 1996) is on the environmental and social impacts of transnational corporations.

In 2001, PLATFORM won a Bridge Program Award, which led to a successful residency at the Headlands Centre for the Arts, San Francisco. It had previously also been awarded the coveted Schumacher Award for Environmental Achievement in 2000, and an Environment Foundation (UK) Travelling Scholarship in 1997.

One of PLATFORM’s projects is ‘Unravelling the Carbon Web’, which pursues creative strategies to help prevent social injustice, environmental damage and human rights abuses resulting from irresponsible fossil fuel industry activity.
